Poetry and Film
These lessons focuses on poems that have appeared in famous films, and the activities allow students to explore the connection between poetry and film. Students will watch a clip of the film Dead Poets Society, in which poetry plays a strong role. Then, selecting from poems that have already been included in movies, they will create their own screenplay scene in which poetry is central. Using Gordon Lightfoot's song, "The Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald" as a springboard, students will analyze and write a poem about a historical event.
