Overview

This tool will allow students to become actively engaged in lessons by creating their own video that corresponds with topics of the lesson. The students will work in groups collaboratively to produce their short video. This tool can be used with any content area.

    Activity Details

    1. Begin by showing the students the app Toontastic and very carefully modeling the steps to create their video.
    2. Put the students in center groups of 4-5 students; each center will have an iPad for them to share.
    3. Walk each group through opening the app and beginning the first scene of the video.
    4. Students will work together to create their Toontastic math video demonstrating how to count to 100 by tens.

    Assessment Strategies

    Students will share their finished videos with their classmates and practice counting to 100 by tens and counting to 20 by ones out loud with the class.

    Variation Tips

    If there are enough iPads in the class this activity could be done on an individual basis and each student could create their own video.

    This app could also be used in any subject area.

    The classroom will require iPads.

    Teacher will need the app Toontastic downloaded on each iPad.

    Teacher will need to practice working with the app and make his or her own video prior to doing this activity with the students.

    The students will need some prior background knowledge on how to use an iPad.
