### Overview

In this activity, the students will fill in each ten frame to represent numbers 0-20 in sequential order.  This learning activity should be used after a lesson on counting from 0 to 20.

This activity results from the ALEX Resource Development Summit.

### Learning Objectives

Students will be able to complete a ten frame that matches a given numeral from 0 to 20.

### Activity Details

1. Determine if the assessment is going to be 0-10, 10-20, or 0-20.
2. Print the appropriate digital tool, Where Do I Belong Assessment, to hand out to every student.
3. Explain to the students that they are to fill in each ten frame to represent the numbers that come before and after the indicated numeral in the circle.
4. Next, the students are to write the corresponding numeral that matches the ten frame that was filled in.
5. Last, the students should check their work making sure the numbers in each row are in sequential order.
Assessment Strategies

### Assessment Strategies

Students will be assessed on the Where Do I Belong Assessment Printable.

Collect students' assessment papers at the end of the activity. Use the following guidelines to ensure students met the learning objective.

Check that the student:

1. filled in the ten frames showing the correct amount that represented the numbers that came before the indicated numeral in the circle.
2. filled in the ten frames showing the correct amount that represented the numbers that came after the indicated numeral in the circle.
3. wrote the correct numeral under the corresponding ten frames.
4. understands the sequential order of the numbers 0-20.

### Variation Tips

Once the students have mastered filling in the correct amount on the ten frames for numbers 0-10, print the rest of the assessment for numbers 10-20, and 0-20.

If it is too difficult for the students to fill in two ten frames that come before or after the indicated numeral in the circle, print the assessment with only 1 ten frame before and after the indicated numeral in the circle.

### Background / Preparation

Determine what numbers the students are ready to be assessed on (0-10, 10-20, or 0-20).

Make a copy of the appropriate digital tool, Where Do I Belong Assessment, for each student.
