Description: This is a hands on lesson in which students will explore their local community to identify living things. It can be used as part of a unit on biodiversity and energy transfer within a biology, zoology, or environmental science course, or as an enrichment assignment for AP biology or AP environmental science. This interdisciplinary high school lesson provides students with real life experience towards mastering objectives in art, English, science, technology, social studies, and math.

Title: All About Animals
Description: Biology students in this technology-based project will explain the significance of major characteristics used for classification in the kingdom Animalia. After collecting information about an assigned trait, students will take pictures of native animals that illustrate this feature. Students will then create a video Podcast explaining how their characteristic is beneficial to the animal and illustrated by the animals they found.

Description: This lesson is virtual dissection of Owl Pellets. This interactive website gives the option of dissecting pellets from many kinds of owls. This would be great to use before actually dissecting, because it would help student learn to identify the bones before the actual dissection. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.
