Title: Food be Thy medicine
Unit Plan Overview: "Show me what you eat and I will show you what you are".  Brillat-Savarin Food and nutrients can be an important part of a well managed medical plan to prevent and to treat patients who are in high risk groups.  In this unit, students will explore the role of diet and its impact on health.  They will research populations who are of higher risk for foodborne illness, identify populations at risk and their nutritional needs.  They will  create meal plans utilizing nutritional therapy for these special health concerns.  They will also identify "superfoods" which have special health benefits for these population groups. This is a 3 week unit can be included in a Dietetics course. Concepts from this unit include information students will use when taking the ServSafe Food Manager exam.
