Title: Automotive Service, Electronic Brake, Traction and Stability Control
The student will have a beginning understanding of the theory of operation of common ABS [Anti Lock Brake System]. They will also be able to identify common components of the ABS system on sight.
Standard(s): [TDL] TD09 (9-12) 2: Identify customer concerns regarding the automotive brake system.
Title: Automotive Service Technology- Diagnosis and repair of Drum Brake Systems
The student will gain a general understanding of the theory of drum brake operation as well as hands on practice in the repair and maintenance of drum brake systems
Standard(s): [TDL] TD01 (9-12) 11: Utilize information technology tools to access, manage, and integrate information.
Title: Automotive Brake Service- inspecting and machining brake drums
The proper inspection machining or refinishing of brake drums ensures quality brake repairs with little to no opportunity for returns for customer complaints. This lesson will teach inspection, measuring and machining techniques and procedures.
Standard(s): [TDL] TD09 (9-12) 7: Demonstrate procedures for diagnosis and repair of drum brakes.
Title: Automotive Brake Service-Constructing a Brake Trainer
A brake trainer can be a valuable assett to teaching students about automotive brakes. On the vehicle brake systems are embedded and difficult to see in the "big picture" of brake systems.
Standard(s): [TDL] TD01 (9-12) 7: Apply problem-solving and critical-thinking skills by organizing technical information for scripting a transportation, distribution, and logistics document.
Title: Automotive Brake Service-inspecting and Machining a Disc Brake Rotor Off the Vehicle.
The proper inspection machining or refinishing of disc brake rotors ensures quality brake repairs with little to no opportunity for returns for customer complaints. This lesson will teach inspection, measuring and machining techniques and procedures.
Standard(s): [S1] PHS (9-12) 8: Relate the law of conservation of energy to transformations of potential energy, kinetic energy, and thermal energy.
Title: Safety in the Automotive Service Technology Lab
This lesson will provide students with the required practices and procedures for working safely in the automotive service technology laboratory. Students will learn about required Personal Protective Equipment [PPE], safe tool and equipment operation, as well as hazardous material handling storage and disposal regulations.
Standard(s): [TDL] TD10 (9-12) 1: Demonstrate personal and environmental safety practices associated with clothing, eye protection, hand tools, power equipment, and proper ventilation related to automotive suspension and steering operation and maintenance.
