a. Within one system of units, express measurements of a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two-column table.

In this interactive activity, students will be led through steps to convert customary and metric lengths. There are teaching activities as well as practice activities available. A handout that reviews the steps taught during the interactive is available to be printed. After utilizing this resource, the students can complete the short quiz to assess their understanding.

In fourth grade, students will use the metric system to measure length, mass, and capacity. Students will learn what unit is appropriate for each measurement and this can be challenging. This video is a point of reference when learning conversions.
