Overview:

Children will practice and explore strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems, such as using counters and rulers, performing mental math, and drawing pictures. As children encounter different outlandish scenarios with their PBS KIDS friends, they will explore, reinforce, and advance their addition and subtraction skills.

1 ) Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem. (See Appendix A, Table 1.) [1-OA1]


Alabama Alternate Achievement Standards
AAS Standard:
M.AAS.1.1- Represent addition as "add to/put together" and subtraction as "take from/take apart" with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds (e.g., claps), acting out situations, or verbal explanations (limited to 15).
