Learning Activities

Overview

Doodle Splash is an online interactive that allows students to incorporate their drawings with their writing.  This site allows them to visualize their ideas and prompts them to write about those ideas.

Activity Learning Objectives

  • The students will be evaluated on their ability to summarize a character in Charlotte's Web.

Activity Assessment Strategies

The students should print their Doodle Splash activity.  These printed materials and the drafts of their prompt responses should be handed in and graded by rubric. (Sample rubrics can be found at teAchnology.)

The Illuminations tool called Geometric Solids is an excellent way to enhance a lesson and provide students with a deeper understanding of the properties of geometric properties. This tool will help students learn the relationships between vertices, faces, and edges. This tool can help students master finding the surface area of three-dimensional figures. This tool also demonstrates the relationship between the solid shapes and their nets.

Students will:

  • manipulate and identify the number of faces, vertices, and edges of three-dimensional shapes.
  • compare and contrast three-dimensional shapes and their nets.
  • create their own net.

Activity Assessment Strategies

1. Ask each student individually to orally identify the number of faces, vertices, and edges of the three-dimensional shapes.

2. Check the students' graphic organizers that analyzed the properties of solids for accuracy.

3. Have the students share the net they created with the class. In their presentation, they must identify all faces, edges, and vertices of their shape.
