Phase:

Before/Engage

Activity:

After watching the introductory video, distribute pre-graphed lines to pairs of students.

Students will create a word problem that will reflect the characteristics of the given line.

Each group will present their word problem to their classmates for them to interpret the given information and recreate the linear equation.

Groups will then share the original graph and the teacher will be able to use the results as a formative assessment to direct/guide the remainder of the learning experience.

Assessment Strategies:

The teacher will evaluate the group presentation to determine progress toward standard.

Advanced Preparation:

The teacher will need to preview the video to make sure the link is still active.

The teacher will need to make sure audio components are working with internal speakers and/or external speakers.

Variation Tips (optional):

The teacher can use the video as a review of a previous lesson to remind students of the concept of slope and slope-intercept form of an equation.

The teacher can use the video to inspire the students to create their own video and/or rap song that explains the concept of slope and slope-intercept form of a line.
