Overview:

BBC Dance Mat Typing provides an interactive typing site for teaching elementary students typing skills. The program is broken down into learning two letters at a time. Students watch a video on the letters that they are learning and then the students are able to apply what they have learned.

Activity:

The students will visit the online interactive program of for typing. The program will take them through learning and practicing the "home row keys." The next levels will teach and allow them to practice typing two letters on the keyboard at a time. The last level of the program evaluates speed and accuracy of typing.

Assessment Strategies:

The last level of the program evaluates speed and accuracy of typing.


Advanced Preparation:

The teacher should pre-teach the home row keys before allowing students to get on the program. Teachers should also orient the student to the workings of the typing program  before allowing them to navigate the site.
