Overview:

In this learning activity, students will use a word cloud website called WordArt.com to create a word cloud with the names and characteristics of key persons associated with World War I.  The word cloud should help students remember these key people and their roles in the War.

Activity:

After teaching a lesson on World War I, the students will use the word clouds from the website WordArt.com as an aid to recognize, visualize, classify, compare, contrast and identify significant people and events in WWI. It serves as an anticipation guide and a word splash.  As a post-test, it serves as a graffiti board or a gist visual.

Assessment Strategies:

The word cloud will be its own assessment.  Students should be able to create a word cloud before a lesson as an anticipation guide or after a lesson as a graffiti board.


Advanced Preparation:

The students will need individual internet connected devices or the teacher may decide to use one device and project on the Smart Board as a whole class response.
