  Strategies, Preparations and Variations
Phase:
Before/Engage
Activity:

Introduce the seven continents of the world displaying the video: The Seven Continents Song, using a projector.

  • Pass out the blank world map (one for each student) and crayons.
  • While playing the video, have the students color the continents, using a different color for each continent - example: red - Europe, green - Asia, yellow - Antarctica, orange - North America, brown - South America, purple - Australia, Africa - black, oceans - blue
Assessment Strategies:

Have students create a Tagul word cloud to identify the continents as well as other details about the continents presented in the video.

Analyze the responses during the word cloud creation to determine the understanding of continents.

Advanced Preparation:

Access the video and Tagul word cloud prior to the activity.  Ensure that the computer and projector are working properly.
