Students create their own adjectives using AnswerGarden which is a Word Cloud program. All students type a word (adjective) into the program and an acrostic is created. This will engage students and also serve as a formative assessment for the teacher to know if students understand adjectives.

Learning Objectives:

The students will create their own adjective to complete a sentence with 100% accuracy.

This is a quick formative assessment for checking the understanding of adjectives.

  Strategies, Preparations and Variations  

1. Teacher writes a sentence on chart paper. Sentence: She is wearing a ________ shirt today.

2. Teacher posts the AnswerGarden website and the answer code. (Answer code appears when teacher logs on to the site.)

3. After students submit their adjective, an acrostic with all of the adjectives is created. The teacher prints the adjective to post on the chart beneath sentence.

Variation:  Teachers will present  a sentence using cloze procedure and students will respond using sticky notes. (Allow students to work in pairs.)

Sample Sentence on Chart Paper: They live in a ________ house.


Assessment Strategies:

Students have to understand what an adjective is to enter an adjective into AnswerGarden.

Advanced Preparation:

Teacher should have two pieces of chart paper and sticky notes. All students should have a technology device to log on to the internet.

1. Teachers will present  a sentence using cloze procedure and students will respond using sticky notes. (Allow students to work in pairs.)
