Overview:

Padlet is an online digital bulletin board. The teacher will pose an open question or topic about online safety and elicit student responses to create a wall poster.   Using Padlet, students will post three ways to stay safe while online.

Each student will utilize the Padlet wall posts to work in a designated group to discuss, analyze and share understanding of Internet Safety.

Activity:

Students will go to the Padlet board created by the teacher.

Students will post at least three ideas on how to stay safe on the internet.

Students will analyze the information from the Padlet utilizing Netsmartz.org age-appropriate Internet Safety Checklist and create a Class Poster of Tips for Staying Safe Online.   

Students will be encouraged to discuss the Internet Safety checklist and their school Acceptable Use Policy (located in the School Handbook) with their parents. 

Assessment Strategies:

The teacher will evaluate effectiveness by engaging students in discussion using netsmartz.org age-appropriate Internet Safety Checklist.  www.netsmartz.org/resources  

Students will participate in a teacher-created Post-Learning Outcome Survey and results will be utilized to plan additional Learning Asset Strategies.  Digital Tool:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/


Advanced Preparation:

  • Teacher/student access to the internet. Projector and interactive whiteboard. 
Variation Tips (optional):

To expand the understanding of staying safe online, utilize ALEX PBL Teaching and Assessment Strategy "Graffiti".

  • Assign each group/team a concept to summarize from the Student Handbook - Internet Acceptable Use.  
  • Have each team record summary on a chart/document in the form of words or phrases.
  • Ask another team to add additional information to the previous team's summary on the chart.
  • Repeat the process until each group has had time to respond to each concept.
  • Have original groups explain their summary and ask other teams to explain their additions.
