Title: Listening Comprehension Read Aloud- Who Was Ruby Bridges?
Description: Listening to narrative text offers students a chance to go beyond decoding and word meaning. Listening as the teacher reads a story gives gives students an opportunity to appreciate, draw significance and meaning as well as informal practice using  story elements. Listening to read-a-louds gives the teacher the opportunity to model "close" reading skills as well as model thinking. This is a College- and Career-Ready Standards showcase lesson plan.

Title: The Biography Project: Exploring the Past in 21st Century Ways
Description: Through this project-based lesson, students will do research on and create an oral presentation based on the life of an influential Famous American. Students will utilize various means to glean information, from online databases, various websites, and age-appropriate biographical literature to prepare for the final product: a "Living Wax Museum." Students will determine the most relevant information to write a script presented in the form of an oral presentation. The presentations will also be recorded and published as a podcast for sharing on the teacher's website.

Subject: Social Studies (K - 2), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Everyone Needs to be Counted!
Description: Through a mixture of lecture and hands-on interaction, students will gain knowledge of the history of the Census Bureau, the Census in the United States and the significance of the Census in modern society. The students will view a sample of the Census questions on the interactive board and answer the questions using the Student Response Systems (student clicker). The students will then create their Census questions based on their understanding of the Census.

Title: Tech Tours using Google Earth-it’s easy, it’s fun…come take a trip with us!
Description: Grab your passport and head around the world as K-2 students become reporters using Google Earth and podcasting to learn and share about maps, globes, people and places around the community, state and world. Tools featured include: Tablet pc’s, iPods, digital cameras, document camera, classroom response system, and free web 2.0 tools.

Title: Become a Thanksgiving Historian
Description: Students may be surprised to find out that some ideas they have about the history of Thanksgiving are actually myths. In this lesson students become a true "Thanksgiving historian" by completing a Venn diagram about the Wampanoag people and the Pilgrims with information acquired through Internet searches.
