Title: The Changing Sun
Description: Students will observe the changes of the sun over the course of a day and then over a 4 month period. Students will document these changes and then graph them. Finally, students will see the relationship between the patterns of the sun and the effect the pattern has on our daily lives.  This lesson was created as part of the 2016 NASA STEM Standards of Practice Project, a collaboration between the Alabama State Department of Education and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.

Subject: Mathematics (K - 2)
Title: Rockin' Around The Clock
Description: This lesson will introduce students to the clock and telling time to the hour. This lesson plan was created by exemplary Alabama Math Teachers through the AMSTI project.

Subject: English Language Arts (K - 1), or Mathematics (1)
Title: Telling Time to the Hour
Description: This lesson helps children make a connection between the digital and analog clock. In general, the number system is based on units of ten which can sometimes make it difficult for children to realize that time is based on cycles of 60.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Mathematics (1 - 4), or Technology Education (K - 2)
Title: It's About Time
Description: During this lesson students gain an understanding of an analog clock and a digital clock. Students watch a movie that explains the importance of time. Students make a clock, see how it works, and complete activities that demonstrate understanding of the concepts covered.

Subject: Mathematics (1 - 2), or Technology Education (K - 2)
Title: My Favorite Time of Day
Description: This is a hands-on mathematics lesson for telling time to the hour. Students will use individual clocks with partners for guided practice. The assessment will be a writing/drawing activity incorporating the use of a computer for word processing purposes.

Subject: Mathematics (1 - 2), or Technology Education (K - 2)
Title: The Grouchy Ladybug Tells Time
Description: The students will use the book, The Grouchy Ladybug, by Eric Carle to tell time. They will also use manipulatives and will draw the clock hands to the appropriate times.

Title: Counting Back and Counting On      Add Bookmark
Description: This lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, focuses on the counting model for subtraction. Students model numbers as a counting book is read. They then make a chain of links and write in vertical and horizontal format the differences suggested by adding and subtracting one link at a time from their chains. Finally, they draw a chain showing one link being taken away and write in two formats the difference it represents.
