Subject: Mathematics (4)
Title: Map This!
Description: Students will use mathematical and scientific tools to create a pictorial representation of their school grounds. Students will learn and use appropriate vocabulary for this task. This is a College- and Career-Ready Standards showcase lesson plan.

Subject: Mathematics (2 - 4)
Title: Easy Equivalent Measures
Description: Easy Equivalent Measures is an exciting, engaging lesson that will make this unpopular, hard skill EASY for your students. We will use Input/Output charts to demonstrate our knowledge of equivalent measures. This lesson will support the needs of all your diverse learners. This lesson plan was created by exemplary Alabama Math Teachers through the AMSTI project.

Subject: Mathematics (3 - 5)
Title: The Class Quilt
Description: Students will design a 12 inch quilt square consisting of geometrical shapes. They must use their knowledge of fractions and polygons in order to create an exact 12" by 12" square.Students will use knowledge of area of a figure in order to create a quilt using their squares. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.

Subject: Mathematics (3 - 4), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: How Do You Measure Up?
Description: During this hands-on lesson, students use reasoning skills in making predictions and then applying skills to obtain accurate measurements. They navigate websites to practice their measuring skills. Students also get a brief overview of the history of measurement.

Subject: Mathematics (3 - 5), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Students Standing Tall
Description: During this lesson, students use data they collect from a class activity to find the mean, mode, median, and range. Students utilize the Internet as a source of information by viewing websites to learn how to find the mean, median, mode, and range of data.

Subject: English Language Arts (5), or Mathematics (4 - 5), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Comparing Modes of Transportation
Description: In this lesson students will visit different websites in order to decide the best mode of transportation from their home town to New York City. Students will graph the results and write a persuasive paper.

Subject: English Language Arts (4), or Mathematics (3 - 4), or Credit Recovery Science (4), or Science (2 - 4), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Explosive Fun with Volcanoes
Description: In this lesson the students will work in groups to make their own volcanoes and learn the different aspects of a volcano.

Title: Exploration of a Balance      Add Bookmark
Description: In this four-lesson unit from Illuminations, students participate in activities in which they focus on patterns and relations that can be developed from the exploration of balance, mass, length of the mass arm, and the position of the fulcrum. This unit includes an individual activity for four different levels from grade 1 to grade 8.

Subject: Mathematics
Description: In this lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, students pose and refine questions that can be addressed with numerical data. They consider aspects of data collection such as how to obtain measurements and record the data they collect. They represent and then analyze the ordered numerical data by describing the shape and important features of a set of data and compare related data sets, with an emphasis on how the data are distributed. In collecting data, students measure with standard units and carry out simple unit conversions.

Subject: Mathematics
Description: Mathematical games can foster mathematical communication as students explain and justify their moves to one another. In addition, games can motivate students and engage them in thinking about and applying concepts and skills. This e-example from Illuminations contains an interactive version of a game that can be used in the grades 3-5 classroom to support students' learning about fractions. e-Math Investigations are selected e-examples from the electronic version of the Principles and Standards of School Mathematics (PSSM). The e-examples are part of the electronic version of the PSSM document. Given their interactive nature and focused discussion tied to the PSSM document, the e-examples are natural companions to the i-Math investigations.
