Title: My Gummy Bear is Bigger than Your Gummy Bear!
Description: Students will develop an understanding of volume and density by analyzing, calculating, and measuring a gummy bear. The students will determine the cause and effect of a water-soaked gummy bear. Students will measure water and gummy bear with accuracy, record data, and communicate their results. This lesson results from collaboration between the Alabama State Department of Education and ASTA.

Subject: Mathematics (5 - 7), or Technology Education (6 - 8)
Description: In this lesson, students will use their knowledge of 3D shapes to create packages for ping pong balls.  They must create small, medium and large packages that are cost effective and stack easily.  They will make nets of the their packages and find the volume and surface area of each.  Students will present the information using a multi-media presentation and a spreadsheet software. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.

Description: In this lesson, from Illuminations, students explore how variations in solar collectors affect the energy absorbed. They make rectangular prisms that have the same volume but different linear dimensions. Students investigate relationships among the linear dimensions, the area, and the volume of rectangular prisms.
